Basketball: Every Possession Leaves a Mark
Basketball fills a box score faster than any sport Statside tracks. One player can touch a dozen columns in a single quarter: points, offensive and defensive rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers, fouls, and minutes, plus made and attempted shots for field goals, threes, and free throws. You enter it all from the box score, quarter by quarter across four, and the counting stats stack into a full statistical portrait of the night. Nothing gets lost. Every possession leaves a mark, and the sheet remembers it.
The signature numbers are the shooting percentages, and they reward efficiency over volume. Statside computes FG%, 3P%, and FT% automatically from made and attempted. A guard who goes 8 of 16 from the floor posts a 50% FG% (FG% = FGM ÷ FGA × 100, so 8 ÷ 16 × 100 = 50). The same math runs behind the arc and at the line, so a chucker and a marksman never read alike. Attempts are the honest denominator: take more, make fewer, and the number tells on you.
Entry stays fast because it is pure box score. You log made and attempted for each shot type, and the rate stats fall out on their own. No separate percentage field to fumble, no mismatched totals. Rebounds split into offensive and defensive but roll up to a clean total, so you get the detail without the extra math. Enter the raw counts and Statside handles the division.
Good and great separate at the milestones. Reach 10 in two categories and you have a double-double: 12 points and 10 rebounds counts. Hit 10 in three, like 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, and that is a triple-double, the rare line that means a player bent the whole game. Season leaders rank by per-game averages behind qualifying thresholds, so a two-game hot streak never outranks a full year of production. Great is the number that holds up in March.
