Volleyball stats, kept live.

Volleyball is a game of clean margins. A rally ends in a point-blank swing, a shanked pass, or a stuffed block, and Statside logs all of it from the box score. You track kills, attack attempts, and errors on the pin, assists from the setter, service aces and service errors at the line, digs in the back row, blocks at the net, and reception errors on the serve receive. Nothing hides. A hitter who pounds ten balls into the block leaves a mark, and so does the passer who keeps the offense in system.

The signature rate stat is hitting percentage, and it is the truest read on an attacker in the sport. Statside computes it live as (kills - errors) ÷ attempts. It rewards efficiency, not volume: a swing that scores helps, a swing that gets stuffed or hit long hurts just as much. Say a middle records 15 kills and 3 errors on 40 attempts. That is (15 - 3) ÷ 40 = 0.300, elite terminating. Note the number can go negative, so a hitter who errs more than she kills lands below zero and the board shows it plainly.

Entry is box score, built for the pace of the gym. A scorekeeper on a phone tallies kills, errors, and attempts by rotation without touching a laptop. The match score itself is sets won, entered by hand, because volleyball is best-of-five and a 3-1 result tells you more than raw point totals ever could. Box-score entry means one person can keep a full match and publish a public team page the moment it ends.

Good and great split on efficiency held over a season. Statside ranks hitting-percentage leaders with a qualifying minimum on attempts, so one perfect night of three swings does not top a starter who terminates all season. Clear the bar, keep the number high, and the leaderboard says the rest.
